Food Quality and Safety

AFBI provides innovative research and development, analytical and diagnostic services and specialist advice on the chemistry and microbiology of food.

 

Research areas include optimising eating quality and nutritional quality of food, evaluating novel processes, minimising food-borne pathogens and spoilage organisms and determining the impact of contaminants from agri-chemicals and other sources.  AFBI has an international reputation for the development and application of analytical methods for the detection of chemical and microbiological contaminants in the food chain.

Research and analyses are conducted in support of Northern Ireland government departments, the agri-food industry and international customers.
