Invest NI Project Definition funding awarded to AFBI staff to support developing collaborations.

Two AFBI staff have been awarded funding under Invest NI’s Project Definition Award programme to support the development of collaborations leading to Horizon 2020 applications.

Dr Ziping Wu

Dr Ziping Wu (Agricultural & Food Economics Branch) received support to develop a proposal addressing the antimicrobial resistance issue.  This will allow him to investigate the potential for cooperation with new partners for which he has travelled to Brussels and to China to for discussions with institutions and researchers in the areas of Food, Agricultural and Biotechnology.  The funding of up to £13,123 will support preparations for a submission to Horizon 2020. [Project details:  Project Definition – RD0316451 - H20/20 - EU-China cooperation on addressing anti-microbial resistance for pig and poultry sectors.

Dr Victoria Smyth (Virology Branch) received support of up to £3,575 to develop a project investigating the in-depth infection biology of Campylobacter in broiler chickens.

AFBI’s contribution will be investigating the role early intestinal viral infections have in the development of later Campylobacter infections in broiler chicken intestines.
