Professor John Davis of the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) was recently invited by the European Commission to participate in a recent conference in Milan to initiate the scientific programme of the Milan Expo.
The conference theme “Towards a Research Agenda for Global Food and Nutrition Security” attracted a broad range of stakeholders from Europe and beyond. Dr Franz Fischler, former EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development and Chairman of the EU Scientific Steering Committee for Milan EXPO 2015 played a prominent role in the conference.
The conference debated a number of key strategic research themes prominent amongst which was “sustainable intensification”, an area where AFBI is already active. Professor Davis has long-standing links with the European Commission, principally in his role as Chief Editor of the journal “EuroChoices” which he developed and is now recognised as the leading European outreach publication in the field of agri-food economics.
A virtual issue of the journal was developed for use by participants in the Milan Expo scientific programme and more widely, and Professor Davis was able to present Dr Fischler with a copy of the latest issue. This EXPO Milano 2015 Virtual Issue can be seen here: http://tiny.cc/u84cyx.
