Submissions for diagnostic testing may be made by farmers or poultry producers and organisations, through their veterinary surgeon.

Submission information

Fish submissions are accepted directly from producers.

All submissions should be accompanied by an advice note or a completed submission form.

The minimum information required

  • Name of veterinary practice (and veterinary surgeon dealing with case)
  • Owner's name and address including postal code and herd, flock or holding number
  • A case history with details of treatment, any provisional diagnosis and special test requests

The case history should include details of species, age, sex and presenting clinical signs.

Live animals

Live animals may, under appropriate circumstances, be submitted for examination (Monday to Friday 9:00am to 4:00pm only) but the owner and/or carrier must comply with all current animal welfare legislation. (Transport of Live Animals).

Bovine abortions

All bovine abortions in Northern Ireland must be reported to the local Divisional Veterinary Officer. Submission to us of samples from a bovine abortion does not fulfil this reporting requirement. Bovine foetuses should not be submitted from herds under brucellosis restrictions.

Results

The results of diagnostic testing are faxed or mailed to the submitting or nominated veterinary surgeon.
