Environmental Protection

AFBI’s environmental research provides an improved understanding of the inter-relationships of agriculture, land use, climate change and the ecological status of freshwater resources in NI.

The aim is to make appropriate and efficient use of resources, while protecting the environment in compliance with EU and regional legislation.  Our purpose is threefold:

  • To facilitate the development of sustainable land use management practices within a competitive agricultural industry
  • To provide the scientific basis for government policy in relation to soil, air and water quality management
  • To enhance environmental quality by developing strategies to help the industry meet environmental targets
