Once again AFBI lowered the gangplank for the public to tour the Research Vessel Corystes during the Northern Ireland Science Festival in February.
Scores of visitors came to see the ship, scientists and crew that work to deliver our marine fisheries and environmental science programme. Guests were shown technology and techniques which our scientists employ such as multi-beam sonar to map the seabed, how we assess the status of our fish stocks, and of course, an insight into life as a sea-going scientist and the internal workings of the ship. The new DAERA Minister visited the ship during the festival to meet the scientists and find out more about how the marine science programme is delivered, and how its results support the Northern Irish environment and economy.
