Date published: 17 July 2025

Areas of Expertise: Fisheries and Aquatic Ecosystems

DAERA Minister Andrew Muir, DCEE Minister Timmy Dooley and SEUPB Director of Managing Authority Paul Beattie enjoyed a visit to the AFBI research vessel Corystes on Tuesday 22nd July, hosted by AFBI Head of FAEB Ewan Hunter.

Ministerial visit to RV Corystes

The visit included a presentation by Billy Hunter on the PEACEPLUS-funded ACCLIMATISE project.

ACCLIMATISE will look at modelling the food web present in the Irish Sea, from plankton to fish, seabird and cetacean species that utilise the shared marine area between NI and RoI.

ACCLIMATISE will bring together expertise from organisations across Northern Ireland, Ireland and Western Scotland and work with citizen fishing vessel fleets in both Irish regions who rely on the Irish Sea for their living.

ACCLIMATISE findings will help policy makers and the public learn how climate change and human activity is impacting the marine ecosystem in the Irish sea.

The ACCLIMATISE project is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
