AFBI at the NI Science Festival 2018

2018's Northern Ireland Science Festival saw the largest involvement by the Institutes scientists at a number of events.

Corystes Open House Tours

The AFBI Research Vessel Corystes was docked beside the SSE Arena for four days of free tours showcasing the work of AFBI's Marine Fisheries Scientists.  The tours were fully booked weeks in advance as the publics curiosity of what happens aboard a research vessel continued unabated. Those who were lucky enough to get tickets were not dissapointed by the spectrum of work, the expertise of the engaging and enthusiastic staff and  the facilities aboard the ship.

Science Roadshows

AFBI joined with other organisations to demonstrate their science to a wide and varied audience of all ages and backgrounds.  The Roadshows were in Dungannon, Coleraine, Enniskillen and Newry.  AFBI's displays included:

  • Grassland and Plant Science Branch demonstrating nematodes and how they affect soil and animals at the Coleraine Roadshow
  • Freshwater Fisheries Scientists presenting eels and other fish at the Enniskillen Roadshow
