What is BovIS

The Bovine Information System is an integrated phenotypic database behind a suite of software applications for cattle incorporating data from government and industry databases.  The resultant database and related software applications enable accurate monitoring of animal performance at farm and industry level enabling the impact of policies, market changes and the adoption of new technologies to be assessed.  The scale and integrity of the database underpins robust modelling and research projects in addition to powerful online benchmarking and advisory tools.

Current applications include

  • Online carcass benchmarking
  • Bovine growth monitoring tool
  • Dairy and beef greenhouse gas calculators
  • Livestock market tool (under development)
  • Livestock disease benchmarking (under development)
