The Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) is an arm’s-length body of the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) and Northern Ireland’s largest agri-food science and environmental research organisation.
The work undertaken by the Institute is aligned to DAERA’s overall vision, as set out in their Corporate Plan, of ‘Delivering a net zero nature positive future, supporting sustainable agriculture and thriving rural communities’ and to the NI Executive Priorities as set out in the Programme for Government (PfG). In addition to DAERA funding, AFBI also leverages income from a range of other public sector and industry sources for scientific work, which is undertaken in areas that are complementary and synergistic to our core DAERA work programmes.
