Final animal disease surveillance report of 2025 published

AFBI provides an animal disease diagnostic service at its laboratories in Stormont and Omagh, where it undertakes surveillance for notifiable, zoonotic (transmissible to humans) and emerging diseases.

Carcasses are submitted for post mortem examination to identify the causes of disease and death.

Information from this surveillance work is published quarterly, with the report for October to December 2025 now available on this website at the link below:

Animal disease surveillance reports: 2025

Cases this quarter include acorn toxicity in cattle and sheep, neoplasia in a bovine foetus, babesiosis in a cow, congenital diaphragmatic hernia in a calf and parasitic infection in a foal.
