AFBI publishes latest animal disease surveillance report outlining key cases

The Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute has released its latest quarterly animal disease surveillance report, covering January to March 2026. Based on post-mortem examination of carcasses submitted to its laboratories in Stormont and Omagh, the report provides accurate diagnoses and identifies underlying causes of mortality.
The report highlights a range of notable diagnoses, including:
- Potato obstruction in a cow
- Aortic rupture in two sheep
- Mannheimia haemolytica-associated abomasitis in a calf
- Chronic diarrhoea linked to bovine viral diarrhoea virus (BVDV)
- Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae endocarditis in pigs
