The AFBI Equality Unit was formed in January 2011 as part of AFBI Human Resources and is based at AFBI HQ, Newforge Lane, Belfast.
AFBI is committed to equality of opportunity and the promotion of a culture of rights and responsibilities in order to fulfil its statutory obligation in compliance with Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 and all Equality Legislation as set out by the Northern Ireland Government.
Disability Action Plan 2017-2021 consultation
AFBI is reviewing its Disability Action Plan 2017-2021 and is carrying out a public consultation to help inform and improve it.
The consultation opened on 21 November 2017, and is closing on the 21 January 2018.

Under Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 (the Act), AFBI, in carrying out its functions relating to Northern Ireland, is required to have due regard to promote equality of opportunity between:
- persons of different religious belief, political opinion, racial group, age, marital status or sexual orientation;
- men and women generally;
- persons with a disability and persons without; and
- persons with dependants and persons without
Without prejudice to these obligations, AFBI is also required, in carrying out its functions, to have regard to the desirability of promoting good relations between persons of different religious belief, political opinion or racial group.
