Biography

Ciaran joined the Economics Research Branch in July 2020. Ciaran completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science and Risk Management with Queens University Belfast in 2011. During his degree, he studied microeconomics, macroeconomics, stochastic processes and econometrics. Since graduating, he worked with one of the largest farm insurers in the U.K. for over seven years. During that time he undertook a variety of different roles. He was a Specialist Farm Underwriter focusing on writing farm insurance across all of the main farm sectors in Northern Ireland and the UK. He also worked in the Learning and Organisational Development Department as a Farm Insurance Specialist. He was responsible for creating training materials comprising of workbooks and eLearning designed for a company-wide audience. Finally, he worked as a Senior Technical Underwriter in Belfast. In this role, he was responsible for the performance of a regional underwriting account and the technical ability of a team of Underwriters. Outside of work, Ciaran is involved in running a family farm with his brother in County Armagh. In AFBI, Ciaran is a part of the FAPRI-UK project, which investigates the relationship between production levels, prices, policy and market shocks for the main agricultural sectors of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
