The GrassCheck project has returned for 2014, and the project continues to be supported by funding from DARDNI and AgriSearch. The project will continue to provide weekly updates of grass growth and quality throughout the grazing season, and also provide weekly grass growth predictions. However this year the grass growth predictions will be more localised, with grass growth predicted for the north, south, east and west of Northern Ireland separately. In order to make these predictions, weather data is being collected from 8 locations across Northern Ireland daily. It is hoped that these regional predictions, combined with the actual grass growth measured by cutting grass plots, will help to provide grassland managers with vital and timely information during the grazing season.
As a new grass growing season begins, decide to make full use of the weekly growth bulletins to assist with grazing management decisions on your farm. In addition to the weekly press bulletins the information is updated weekly on our website and on the DARD website at the links below:
