FoodBRAND Objective 5

To ensure adequate Technology Transfer to the EU National Reference Laboratory system and the European Consumer.
The EU has established a system of Community Reference Laboratories (CRLs) and National Reference Laboratories (NRLs) for the analysis of veterinary drug residues. This laboratory network is one of the main end-users of the outcomes of FoodBRAND. A key Objective of FoodBRAND was to ensure adequate Technology Transfer to this laboratory network via relevant workshops and the provision of standard materials and Standard Operating Procedures for the analytical methods developed during the project.
The involvement of Consumer’s organizations and dissemination of results to the European Consumer were also vital elements within FoodBRAND. A two day Consumer Workshop would be organized by the Consortium to bring together scientists, consumers and legislators to discuss nitrofurans and wider residues issues, whilst project results would be publicized on a FoodBRAND web site. Results of the pork survey (Objective 4) would be publicized widely in the magazines of the Consumer’s organizations involved in collection of the retail samples.
