This
is
a stratified random sampling scheme, which aims to control the abuse of
in-feed antibiotics including sulphonamides and tetracyclines, within pig production
.
Phase
1 sampling
One pig is sampled at the abattoir from each producer five
times per year Carcases are not detained. (Target: 95% of results to be issued within 20 working days).
If non-compliant residues are found, the producer is selected for Phase 2 sampling.
Phase
2 sampling
A minimum of five pigs are sampled at the abattoir from each
consignment presented by the producer. Carcases are detained. (Target: 95% results to be issued within
five working days). Carcases containing unacceptable residues are condemned and the producer remains
listed
for Phase 2 sampling. If samples from three consecutive consignments are cleared, the producer is returned
to Phase 1 sampling.
