This
scheme
operates to provide additional samples for testing for the presence of ß-agonists and other
illegal compounds in beef.
Carcases are not detained pending results,
but a noncompliant result will
trigger the Meat Inspection Scheme. A field follow-up investigation is carried out by the Department
of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) Veterinary Service, which – coupled to intensified
testing
by the laboratory - assists in identifying the cause of any non-compliant residues.
