Analysis, research and advice on veterinary drug residue and marine biotoxins is available from the Chemical Surveillance Branch of AFBI's Veterinary Science Division (VSD).
The Chemical Surveillance Branch:
- is the UK National Reference Laboratory for most of the veterinary drugs banned in the EU
- is the UK National Reference Laboratory for marine biotoxins
- is a centre of excellence in testing for veterinary drug residues
- has a wide range of screening and confirmatory tests for drug residues
- has a wide range of tests for marine biotoxins
- has ISO 17025:2005 and ISO 9001:2000 accreditation
- has provided training and advice in Belfast and around the world
- has co-ordinated and participated widely in EU-funded Research and Development programmes
The Chemical Surveillance Branch can:
- carry out analyses for veterinary drug residues under ISO17025 accreditation
- produce monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies
- perform pharmacokinetic studies under ISO17025 accreditation
- carry out analyses for marine biotoxins under ISO17025 accreditation
- act as a world-class research partner in any of the above areas.
- provide advice on residues surveillance plans and laboratory performance
- provide training on drug residue analysis
