Veterinary Drug Residues and Marine Biotoxins

Analysis, research and advice on veterinary drug residue and marine biotoxins is available from the Chemical Surveillance Branch of AFBI's Veterinary Science Division (VSD).

The Chemical Surveillance Branch:
  • is the UK National Reference Laboratory for most of the veterinary drugs banned in the EU
  • is the UK National Reference Laboratory for marine biotoxins
  • is a centre of excellence in testing for veterinary drug residues
  • has a wide range of screening and confirmatory tests for drug residues
  • has a wide range of tests for marine biotoxins
  • has ISO 17025:2005 and ISO 9001:2000 accreditation
  • has provided training and advice in Belfast and around the world
  • has co-ordinated and participated widely in EU-funded Research and Development programmes
The Chemical Surveillance Branch can:
  • carry out analyses for veterinary drug residues under ISO17025 accreditation
  • produce monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies
  • perform pharmacokinetic studies under ISO17025 accreditation
  • carry out analyses for marine biotoxins under ISO17025 accreditation
  • act as a world-class research partner in any of the above areas.
  • provide advice on residues surveillance plans and laboratory performance
  • provide training on drug residue analysis
