What is the
Global Research Unit?
The Global Research Unit is a unique unit
established to identify, evaluate and promote new research developments and ideas from across the world,
which could be of benefit to the Northern Ireland Agri-Food Industry.
How
was the Global Research Unit formed?
The Vision Report for the
Agri-Food Industry in Northern Ireland recommended that “The Agricultural Research Institute of Northern
Ireland should facilitate the transfer of global research to Northern Ireland”. DARD Vision funding
was provided to set up the Unit which came into being at the beginning of 2004.
Aims of the Global Research Unit
- Develop
broad picture of the needs of the Agri-Food Industry in Northern Ireland.
- Identify
potentially valuable international research findings and new farming ideas from across the world.
- Short
list projects with the greatest potential to benefit the Agri-food industry in Northern Ireland
- Carry
out detailed desk studies of the short-listed projects.
- Validate the potential benefits
by carrying out local experiments.
- Promote the results to the Northern Ireland Agri-Food
Industry.
