Crop and Grass Production

Objectives

Grassland research aims to optimise the efficiency of grass-based production systems and to integrate production systems and environmental aspects to manage potential problems of pollution and conservation. Research on field crops production seeks to develop improved potato cultivars, to determine the biological and economic effects of reducing the inputs of agrochemicals and fertilizers into cropping systems and to improve control of pests, diseases and weeds. Research on horticultural production strives to maximise efficiency of mushroom production and the potential of exotic mushroom species. Investigations are also taking place on cultural and disease problems in the production of top fruit and on improving control methods for horticultural pests, diseases and compost weed moulds.
