AFBI agrees a programme of research activity which underpins the the Department
of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) policy objectives of:
- ensuring that the impact
and interaction between agriculture and the environment is considered and managed to sustain and, if
possible, enhances the rural environment;
- promoting environmentally sensitive farming
and resource use practices in which environmental objectives are fully integrated with those of production;
- seeking
to understand environmental processes relevant to agriculture and to provide options for industry to
address significant environmental problems such as pollution by silage effluent;
- recognising
that the impact of agricultural practices on the quality of ultimate food products is a major consideration
in order to provide a basis for producing food of the highest quality to meet the needs of discerning
customers in niche value-added markets.
