AFBI currently conducts contracted research for a range of customers including
the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), the Department for Environment, Food and
Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the European Union (EU). In seeking to extend this customer base, AFBI is
alert to global trends and drivers
for change in agri-food science, including:
- the impact of climate change;
- the search for alternative energy supplies;
- sustainable consumption;
- natural resource protection;
- sustainable food and farming (including animal health & welfare).
AFBI
recognises that the need for multi- and inter-disciplinary approaches to the design of research projects
requires co-ordination and collaboration. Hence AFBI continues to form and extend partnership
links with relevant Funding bodies and Universities, and participates in the work of appropriate
national and international research bodies.
