The George Scott Robertson Memorial Lecture 2012
The Irish Government’s Chief Scientific Adviser, Professor Patrick Cunningham has delivered the 61st annual George Scott Robertson Memorial Lecture at the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) Headquarters, Newforge Lane, Belfast. It was entitled “Science, Agriculture, Development- A personal journey”.

The annual lectures were inaugurated by friends and admirers to perpetuate the memory of the late Dr George Scott Robertson who played a prominent part in promoting agricultural progress in Northern Ireland from 1921 – 1948. Amongst his many other achievements, the founding of the Agricultural Research Institute for Northern Ireland at Hillsborough, Co Down – now part of AFBI ranks as one of the most influential and important to the local agri-food industry.

The GSR lecture is a significant event in the annual Northern Ireland agri-food calendar. AFBI, via the lecture seeks to engage the agri-food industry in the widest sense by providing an expert external view on key issues facing the industry and the consumer.
