AgriTech visits AFBI Crossnacrevy
AgriTech seed merchants and agents from across Ireland visited the AFBI Plant Testing Station at Crossnacreevy last week.

Dr Trevor Gilliland (far right), shows the AgriTech seed merchants and agents some of the trials undertaken at AFBI Crossnacreevey.
The group of seed merchants and agents were shown around the variety trials at the station by Dr Trevor Gilliland, who explained how the grass testing programmes identified elite grass, clover and maize varieties for inclusion in the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) Recommended Lists and provided detailed agronomic descriptions for these.
Mr William Waterson of AgriTech explained how this research-backed information on grass varieties was essential to their business as they depended on it to compile seeds mixtures for the more northerly markets in Ireland. He indicated that AgriTech were currently using top AFBI recommended varieties such as Foxtrot and Pastour as the cornerstone in many of their mixtures.
