AFBI were  represented at the winter fair as part of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) stand.

The project RENEW (Renewable Energy Networks for Environmental Welfare) is co-ordinated by scientists in the Agri-Food & Biosciences Institute.
The Veterinary Residues Committee (VRC) will hold its 4th Open Meeting at the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute in Belfast on 31 October 2007. Registration will be at 10.00 am, and the meeting will begin at 10.30 am. Admission is free

AFBI will be hosting a Plant Nematology Workshop, under the auspices of the Association of Applied Biologists, on 11 - 13 September 2007 at Newforge Lane, Belfast.  
The challenge of maintaining a profitable and sustainable sheep enterprise while ensuring high standards of animal welfare and environmental management has never been greater than it is today.
Concentrate inputs represent a significant cost to sheep flocks in Northern Ireland. Provisional data from the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) Benchmarking Programme indicates that average concentrate costs for 2005-2006 were equivalent to 31 and 36 pence per kg carcass output for lowland and hill flocks respectively, with some flocks approaching 70 pence per kg (for example, up to 30% of final carcass value).
Opportunities to develop easier-care sheep systems through breeding and selection will be a key focus of two farm walks organized by AFBI Hillsborough, in conjunction with AgriSearch and the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE), Greenmount Campus.
