AFBI Crossnacreevy promotes the genetic improvement of crops and facilitates the production and marketing of proven superior cultivars.

AFBI Crossnacreevy incorporates both The Northern Ireland Plant Testing Station, a centre of expertise on seed and cultivar science and technology, and the Northern Ireland Official Seed Testing Station.  
Research, technical and statutory work is carried out on seeds and cultivars and specialist advice is provided to Government and industry.

Activities include:
  • Seed Testing and Certification;
  • UK Plant Breeders' Rights;
  • UK National List and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) Recommended List Testing;
  • Innovative research and development.

How to find us

Directions to AFBI Crossnacreevy
From Dublin/South/West
  1. Exit M1 at junction 2, turning right off the roundabout onto the A55.
  2. Continue straight along A55 (Balmoral Avenue)
  3. Turn Right at the second crossroads (Malone rd) following signs for Outer Ring (A55)
  4. Follow Outer Ring (A55) Until the Castlereagh road Junction. Turn Right onto the Ballygowan road (A23)(Signs for Roselawn Cemetary)
  5. Just beyond Roselawn Cemetary on the A23 turn right onto Houston Road and continue through the housing development until the road narrows.
  6. AFBI Crossnacreevy is the low white building on the left, at the bottom of the hill.
From City Airport/East
  1. Join Outer Ring (A55). Follow road to the Castlereagh Junction, turn left onto the Ballygowan Rd (A23) (Signs for Roselawn Cemetary)
  2. As above.
From North/International Airport/ferries
  1. Join M2 to Belfast, exiting at Junction 1b (city centre/docks)
  2. Follow signs for M1 West along Westlink (A12)
  3. Join M1 and exit at Junction 2, then follow directions as above.
