AFBI Loughgall incorporates the Northern Ireland Horticulture & Plant Breeding Station (NIHPBS)
and
is located in the Loughgall Manor Estate.

AFBI Loughgall strives to support and develop industry through:
- Mushroom
Research to improve quality and efficiency of production;
- Apple Research & Development
including more efficient processing, the use of plant transformation technology, and new varieties and
planting systems for cider production;
- Specialist Horticultural Production and Plant
Protection aimed at reducing inputs of agrochemicals and targeting their use more effectively in horticultural
crops;
- Provision of a specialist analytical and diagnostic service to the Horticultural
Industry;
- Short Rotation Coppice as an alternative and renewable source
of energy;
- Agroforestry to investigate novel means of introducing trees onto farms
as a diversification option;
- Grass Breeding programme to develop new varieties which
are particularly well adapted to conditions in the British Isles;
- Potato Breeding
programme to produce new varieties suitable for use within Northern Ireland and for export around the
Mediterranean Basin and Eastern Europe.

How to find us
From Belfast Airports, Ferries, North and East
- Join
M1 Westbound.
- Exit at Junction 11(M12)
- Either take
the junction 11 exit off the M12, through Portadown onto the B77 (signposted at Northway roundabout),
or take the junction 13 exit off the M1.
- In Loughgall, the main buildings
are through the ornamental gates on the left as you go through the village from the M1/Portadown.
- The
grass and potato-breeding units are on the right-hand-side, 300yds passed the gates at the top of the
hill.
- Opposite the church, take the lane in front of St Luke’s church hall.
- The entrance to the glasshouses and stores are on the left passed the Primary
School.
From Dublin/South- From
Newry take the A27 to Portadown.
- In Portadown take the B77 to Loughgall
