Head of Veterinary Sciences Division
Dr Seamus Kennedy is the Head of the Veterinary Sciences Division (VSD) and Deputy Chief Executive of the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI). He has worked as a veterinary surgeon in VSD for 26 years, specialising in veterinary pathology, and was appointed as Head of Division and Deputy Chief Executive of AFBI in March 2006.
AFBI’s Veterinary Sciences Division carries out surveillance of animal diseases and veterinary drug residues in food, through its analytical testing programmes. It also carries out research on animal diseases important to animal welfare and the economy of Northern Ireland and on food safety problems. Preparedness for outbreaks of epizootic disease or threats to the food chain form an important part of the work of the Division.
Dr Kennedy and several other members of AFBI staff contributed to the preparation of the livestock code of practice.
