Head of Applied Plant Sciences & Biometrics.

Mike Camlin is from a horticultural family background in Co. Down and has worked for the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) and subsequently for AFBI for over 35 years. He joined the Department shortly after leaving Queens University, taking up a grassland research post at the Plant Testing Station, Crossnacreevy in 1970.
Throughout his early career he was closely involved with grassland and grass-based production and was responsible for producing Northern Ireland’s first Grass and Clover Recommended Lists in the early 1970s.
Mike has a close involvement with the local agricultural industry and is a member of a number of local agricultural societies. He served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Ulster Grassland Society for almost 20 years and completed his year as President in 2005. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Agricultural Societies.
Since 1995, as Deputy Head and more recently, as Head, he has had oversight of all plant and crop research within AFBI’s Applied Plant Science and Biometrics Division.
