Sustainable Livestock

‘Advancing Animal Science, Improving Livestock Farming’ is the focus of the AFBI research farm at Hillsborough, where scientific teams provide independent, internationally published research solutions in ruminant and non-ruminant livestock farming.

Key funders and beneficiaries include DAERA, the local agri-food supply chain and wider UK/EU industries.  Large scale research projects also conducted with international partners with future contracted work through the Centre of Innovative Excellence in Livestock (CIEL) and links with UK AgriMetrics Centre.

This research informs government policy and delivers solutions to businesses across the supply chain to improve local and international competitiveness, lower environmental impacts and enhance animal health and welfare.
